Yohei Sugita “Petal of Painting”

Artists

Yohei Sugita
Yohei Sugita produces collage-like landscapes and figurative paintings using fragments of dried acrylic paint on canvas. He also creates oil paintings where ultra-realistic worlds appear through the reconstruction of photographs found in magazines and online. His approach focuses on the exploration of the essence of what forms paintings.
This exhibition will present his series titled “Pith.” The word refers to the core or essence of something, but also to the spongy cellular tissue found in the stems and branches of many plants. As the thinly stretched layers of paint overlap at the base of the canvas they appear much like petals, the medium taking on a totally new form.
