Naemi Ueta
For the project “Inori,” which translates as “prayer” in English, photographer Naemi Ueta has devoted herself to shooting famous flamenco dancers of the day. Ueta’s unique style combines delicate artistic creativity with a documentary viewpoint. This combination of flamenco and the world of photography began with flamenco dancer Manuel Santiago Maya, known as “Manolete.” After Manolete appeared in front of her camera, Ueta realised that her images could capture the universality of flamenco art. All subsequent images were shot away from show business settings, the dancers instead appearing in their own private spaces - places where creativity is born from quiet and solitude, and where the essence of flamenco can be found. This exhibition will present a selection of works shot in Sacromonte, Granada, taken from among the 80 works that comprise this project. It is the first time they have been exhibited in Japan.
