Tamotsu Kido
For this fourth solo exhibition by Tamotsu Kido, Hagiwara Projects presents 13 photographic works that were unveiled at Assembridge Nagoya last year, as part of a special tie up with Aichi Triennale, for the first time in Tokyo. Giving much consideration to color and light, Kido’s images reflect the beauty concealed in everyday life. In recent years he has focused his attention on suburban landscapes where factory-made objects such as abandoned cars can be seen nestled alongside natural things like lush flowers, drawn out with the use of light. In Kido’s photographs, iron and rust become part of the “color” and feature as elements that exist in a realm beyond their original meaning. “Fishing the Boat” is a series that depicts ships Kido boarded at the port in Nagoya. Despite featuring such limited subjects, the photographs are highly expressive and show the characteristics and personality of each ship.
