“Invitationals/Auctions” is Frank Gerritz’s serial work partly painted with a black paintstick over invitational cards for exhibitions or pages from auction catalogues sent to him. This series is derived from his paintstick drawings on anodized aluminum. The traces of paintstick, brush strokes on surfaces, and compositions are common in both works. Gerritz succeeds in creating humorous and witty works by adding his paintstick to the reproductive plates of works by internationally well-known artists. Because those works frequently put in auctions are directly linked to money, this series also has a cynical character, addressing the close relationship of contemporary art to commercialism and the money. This show consists only of the works from the “Invitationals/Auctions” series. Moreover, it concentrates on the works of Pop Art stars such as by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jean Michel Basquiat, and others.
