This event has ended.

In recent years, Meiro Koizumi has been creating a number of works themed on nationalism in Japanese society. Mujin-to Production and Studio Meiro Koizumi present the new video installation “Rite for a Dream – Today My Empire Sings” for the first time in Japan at Vacant. The same work was shown at Koizumi’s solo exhibition at De Hallen Haarlem in the Netherlands last year. Filmed last summer in Tokyo, it reveals the cultural violence hidden in daily life through a peculiar childhood dream of Koizumi’s. The story of Koizumi’s dream is recited by a performer, who recounts the intoxication of violence and heroism underlying nationalism as an interplay of falsehood and truth make it unclear if what we are seeing is a dream or reality.
