Takanao Kaneko
Takanao Kaneko is known for illustrations of monstrous characters, which are a vague and uneasy extension of the familiar. Kaneko’s depictions are also inspired by legends of Japanese “tsukumogami” - tools that have come to acquire antagonistic spirits living inside of them after many years of use. The manifestation of these spirits can be understood as a mirror of what happens in a contemporary society like ours, overflowing with information we are unable to handle.

In this solo exhibition Kaneko will create an installation for the first time. It will conceptualize hidden feelings of insecurity that abound in everyday life, presentating various “supportive” gadgets such as radio controllers, typewriters, and computer keyboards. Through these tools typically used for the manipulation of information, Kaneko will address two key themes: the disappearance of information, and the advent of information that will not disappear.
