Tomoyuki Hoshino
Tomoyuki Hoshino’s elegant white porcelain vessels are characterized by elegant pink liner designs and marbled patterns. They are achieved via an original technique referred to by the artist as “neritsugi,” coined from a combination of the traditional technical terms “neriage” (using two clays of contrasting colors to create a marbled effect) and “dotsugi” (ceramic joinery). His neritsugi approach involves applying pink pigment to individual porcelain parts that have each been thrown separately on the wheel, which are then joined together to produce a single work. Once the vessels are air dry he cuts into the surface and adds decorative patterns. 10 brand new works from the ‘Human’ series, which aims to embody both the exterior and inner appearance of human beings, are introduced here.
