Orbis 30th Anniversary Exhibition: The Beauty of Everyday Life

Pola Museum Annex
Finished

Artists

Yukiko Ishimura, Shinichiro Ogata, Ito Ogawa et al.
Haré and Ke form a duality within traditional Japanese culture: Haré is the remarkable and Ke is the usual. Moments of Haré are transformative and celebratory, when occasions rise, whereas Ke are the routines of ordinary life, best when uneventful. In contemporary society it can seem that glamorous Haré gets all of the attention, even though we know that rare and special Haré is only possible upon the repletion of humble Ke.
In this exhibition we turn our attention to Ke, and illuminate the aesthetic propositions by creators for beauty that resonates deep within everyday life.
