Jun Tsunoda
Jun Tsunoda’s art book “Sound and Vision” compiles roughly two decades of text drawings by the abstract painter, who blends the features of various letters into calligraphic drawings with a disjointed aesthetic. Taking diverse forms, his approach interchanges this “primitive” lettering style with free artistic expression. Tsunoda uses his letters to form words that pay homage to poets such as Fernando Pessoa, Emily Dickinson, Matsuo Basho, and Santoku Taneda, as well as musicians and artists who have influenced him. His typographic shapes become harmonies, while his brush works turn into works of imagination, giving rise to sounds and visions of their own.
