Hiroshi Yoshida
Based on the idea that sandplay therapy - a therapeutic approach that uses sand and miniature objects to create a concrete manifestation of peoples imaginal worlds that can thus be explored freely and safely - could hold potential for society as a whole, Hiroshi Yoshida holds workshops that encourage participants to come together and enter dialog with each other while telling stories over the sandbox. He hosts around 12 consecutive sessions over six months. One of the stories Yoshida focuses on is the unusual ancient tale “Katago,” which addresses the topic of suicide. As the direction in which society is heading becomes increasingly uncertain, Yoshida attempts to define its current position by exploring stories from the past, asking what new meanings “Kotago” communicates from a present day perspective.
