Artists

Tian Jianping
Tian Jianping (b. 1963) is an artist and calligrapher that relocated to Japan in 1991 and has continued to exhibit his work in both Japan and China. This exhibition will present paintings on the theme of “Byakuren (white lotus)” and “Takayama (high mountain).” “Byakuren (white lotus)” appears in the work of Song dynasty Chinese Neo-Confucian philosopher Zhou Dunyi, who suggested a pure lotus growing out of dirty waters was the natural equivalent of a noble person. “Takayama (high mountain)” can be traced back to the oldest existing collection of Chinese poetry, referring to high altitudes where scenery disappears from sight that serve as a metaphor for virtuous individuals. A selection of subtle and magnificent works in ink will be on exhibit here.
