Elena Tutatchikova
The word “foil” is originally a hunting term that dates back to Middle English and was used to describe the invisible traces, or scent, of the hunted. There is also the old-fashioned term “foilen,” now no longer in use, that refers to following the trail of hunted beast in a way so as to erases the traces that would be left behind. In her work presented here, Elena Tutatchikova pursues a myriad of invisible trails, leaving traces in places where human beings would once have set foot. The Teto in the title of this exhibition refers to a dog who lives at the foot of Mount Yatsugadake and who has led Tutatchikova on these trails to date and continues to guide her.
