Shinryo Saeki “Riverside”

Kanzan Gallery
Finished

Artists

Shinryo Saeki
In his previous work, “Greeting,” Shinryo Saeki incorporated unexpected humor into a unique exploration of life and death in terms of “Higan” (the living world) and “Shigan” (the other world). Higan and Shigan are Buddhist terms that refer to two distinct realms of the living and the dead separated by a river. In his subsequent “Riverside” series, Saeki investigates the changes that accompany the flow of time, looking toward the light that shines between life and death. Even in the most intimately involved families death comes, but there is also the belief that life is born again. With the works on show in this exhibition you have a chance to imagine what kind of riverbank we are inhabiting at this moment.
