Works by three contemporary artists offer insight into the mysteries of Japan’s so-called “closed” society and the complexity of its traditional approach to the concept of the group and the individual. The title “In and Out” refers specifically to “Uchi-Soto” - meaning “inside” and “outside” (of the group) - a rule considered fundamental to the organization of Japanese society and the attitude of its citizens. Discover the works of these three up-and-coming creatives who unveil another side to Japanese culture, shedding light on unconscious group formations and the bias of personal taste as developed within consumer society.
