Artists

Yves Dana
Yves Dana has been creating non-figurative sculptures with authentic and traditional materials in the history of sculpture. At the beginning of his carrier, he exclusively worked on iron and then moved to bronze and stone. Recently his main concern is stone sculpture. Despite of this changing of the material, it is consistent that he works directly on the material without preparing any drawings or models. He always works with his hands without leaving any part or process of the creation to his assistants or technicians.
Taguchi Fine Art made the presentation of his sculptures at Temporary Gallery in Cologne, Germany on the occasion of its pop-up event, “Taguchi Fine Art in Cologne” in 2011. And this is the first time to make his solo show in our gallery space in Tokyo. The show will consist of five stone sculptures and two bronze sculptures. Here in Japan it is his first solo show in 26 years since his solo exhibition at Kokusai Kyoiku Gakuin in Urayasu, Chiba in 1991.
When we look at his recent stone sculptures, those simple form created with his minimum commitment to the material reminds us the form of objects or sculptural/architectural ornaments by ancient craftsmen devoted to God. His works might take us to the origin or the genesis of the world.
