Presenting the second installment in a project depicting Fukushima through the eyes of artists. The project began with a group of nine artists visiting Fukushima. They held an exhibition of their works at the Iwaki City Civic Culture Center in 2014 that was met with a strong response and travelled to Vancouver’s Look Out Gallery in 2015. Seven artists, including those who participated in the Vancouver show, returned to Fukushima in last March year to reexamine the “current” situation and spent a year creating these works.

Six years have passed since the disasters and Fukushima’s problems have only become more complex. No one single perspective can explain them all. In this exhibition of paintings, illustrations, photographs, picture books, and more, the artists’ diverse expressions and viewpoints offer a three-dimensional look at “Fukushima now.” Furthermore, their visual works create space for conversation that surpasses easily misunderstood verbal communication coming from different standpoints. The artists hope this will be an opportunity for us to confront the way we live and the issues we face.
