Noboru Hama
Around 1989, Noboru Hama spent three years documenting vacant lots in Kanda, Yotsuya, and Shinjuku that had opened up as a result of land reclamation and redevelopment. 953 of these images were then published by the Photographers’ Gallery as a photo book titled “Vacant Land 1989” in 2007. The book won the 20th Photographic Association Award, and the year following publication an exhibition featuring the works was held at Ginza Nikon Salon. In 2017 Hama released a three-volume book titled “The name Okinawa,” which received the Sagami Hara Photography Award.
In this exhibition, Hara reconstructs the “Vacant Land 1989” show that he held in 2008.
