Exhibition commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth and 60th anniversary of the death of Taikan Yokoyama, a pioneering figure in modern nihonga painting. Marvel at the museum’s collection of works by this artist born into a samurai family who enrolled in the first graduating class of Tokyo Fine Arts School. Studying under Tenshin Okakura while Japan underwent dramatic Westernization, he partook in founding the alternative art academy, Japan Art Institute. Don’t miss this remarkable opportunity to view 40 masterpieces by Taikan alongside works by other elite Tokyo artists.
