Osamu Sato “Yamabito, the Mountain People”

Gallery Nii, Tokyo
Finished

Artists

Osamu Sato
While he worked for a printing company in the city, Osamu Sato was fascinated by the slowness of time and the lives of the local residents he encountered in the mountain village of Ueno in Gunma Prefecture during the early 1970s. In order to express the slow life of the villagers, he used a large 8x10 inch camera to photograph their day-to-day movements. About 20 carefully selected high-quality silver-halide prints are presented here.
