Design has become increasingly significant in recent years, with the field encompassing everything from objects to business strategy. There is no denying the value that design brings to society. However, even though design has become more commonplace, the number of design events are few and far between. As a result, young designers with fresh perspectives struggle to find avenues to showcase their talent and work. The present global economic and political climate has seen many young designers returning to Japan after their studies abroad.
Re-Importation is an exhibition that seeks to showcase the work of this new generation of Japanese designers with global experience. It was established last year by four Japanese designers who graduated from the ECAL in Switzerland.
This second edition highlights the current projects of designers from the previous edition as well as the work of new designers who graduated this summer from various schools in Europe. A range of projects spanning from everyday chairs and lighting to art pieces offer insight into the inspiration and preoccupations of these young minds.
This exhibition offers a chance to join the conversation and form links between the different generations, countries and cultures represented here.
