In this exhibition, Madsaki will expand upon a new series where he experiments with a more private, self-referencing approach and takes his wife as his subject. Madsaki’s perverse style, which is as if he were replacing the masters he has imitated in the past with himself, reflects his sentiment as an artist whose complex identity spans both Japan and the United States, embracing the street culture of New York and his experience there as a bike messenger. With this new approach to expression Madsaki’s work has attained a literature like quality, where he depicts his personal life through insight into the fleeting, transient nature of everyday life and the rebellious spirit.
