Introducing the beauty of suiboku-ga (ink-brush painting) through themes of “the wind syles.” The painter Sesshu was the first Japanese artist to study the real expression of ink painting in Ming China. Then, it was during the Muromachi period that Tohoku Hasegawa and other Japanese artists who learned from the Chinese predecessors were able to attain their own and new style of expression. This exhibition will feature masterpieces by Sesshu and Tohaku, together fine examples from Chinese painting, to show the origin of their creative drive to bring about new trends while learning from the Chinese masters.
