Villains in Ukiyo-e Part II

Ota Memorial Museum of Art
Finished
In TV dramas, movies and novels, villainous roles are often depicted as more attractive than the protagonist. The people of Edo also seem to have been aware of the unfathomable attraction of “evil.” This exhibition is an expanded revival of one of the museum’s most popular, “Villains in Ukiyo-e” held in 2015. Thieves such as Jirokichi Nezumikozo, chivalrous men such as Chobei Banzuiin, malicious authorities, evil women, wicked sorcerers, and other villainous figures in Edo from both reality and fiction are brought to you again at Ota Memorial Museum of Art.

Part 1: June 2–June 27
Part 2: June 30–July 29
Displayed works will be alternated during the exhibition (on June 15 during Part 1 and July 15 during Part 2)
