Artists

Kotaro Hoshiyama
In addition to communicating the characteristics of individual products, advertising plays a social role in promoting consumption. Similarly, Kotaro Hoshiyama’s portraits address both the individual and wider society, evoking the destruction and creation of value by depicting the impulses we suppress in order to survive and sympathizing with the simulated experiences we live.
Though a painter, Hoshiyama has a keen interest in manga, which he feels expresses social reality. Employing various techniques, he is an artist committed to expressing fiction and reality, cutting through the sea of information we receive from advertising that is passively stored in our brains. Approximately 26 works will be exhibited here, ranging from large-scale masterpieces of around 900 × 2,700cm (900cm series of three) to smaller works.
