Artists

Takahiro Wada
In recent years Takahiro Wada has been developing his wet plate system. This exhibition will show his gems of glass plates, as well as his albumen prints. Wet plate photography was used for only a short time in the 1800s due to the popularity of dry plates, yet the art form creates unique textures using collodion. Wada studies vintage wet plates from the Meiji period. He also opened Wet Plate Photo Studio in Nippori, in response to the disappearance of many photo studios. In Nippori Portraits he goes back farther in time, watching the beauty of 21st-century people through lenses made over one hundred years ago.
