Haruko Handa
It is said that we are living in a “post-truth” age, yet this type of propaganda appealing to emotions and personal beliefs over objective truths is nothing new. It has been a political and nationalistic tactic for ages. Drawing on the WWII propaganda publications “Front” and “Kyowa Pictorial,” Haruko Handa’s works reconsiders “Fake Manchuria,” an area in northeastern Japan claimed after the Manchurian Incident and not recognized by China, through a post-truth lens.
