With the goal of sharing a quality of sound that has now vanished from public spaces, the Acadamedia Lecture Theater at Intermediateque hosts a gramophone concert series playing famous jazz recordings from the 1920s to 1940s on the E.M.G. Mark IX and other renowned gramophones. The jazz selection comes from the collection of Satoshi Yuze.
In 1941, the composer Jimmy Davis entrusted Billie Holiday with a song before going to war where he died without ever listening to its interpretation. “Lover Man” became an instant classic, and its particular harmony and rhythm still enchant players today. This event traces the postwar history of this song through SP records, from Holiday’s famous recording to innovative bebop and modern interpretations.
