Calligraphers do not simply show words on paper, but express the forms and meanings of individual characters through selecting specific tones and colors of ink, as well as varied brush thicknesses. Here in an homage to French painter Pierre Soulages and “ichi-go ichi-e,” a Japanese idiom that describes treasured encounters, calligrapher Setsuhi Shiraishi welcomes you to his world of “ichi” (singularity).
