Direct Perception by Soetsu Yanagi
Japan Folk-Craft Museum
This event has ended.
Soetsu Yanagi was among the first scholars to draw attention to the beauty of Korea’s Joseon folk ceramics, the wood statues of the folk artist Mokujiki, and Japanese “mingei” folk crafts. It was his “direct perception,” or intuition, which made this unprecedented achievement possible. In this exhibition, works collected by Yanagi are proudly displayed without captions noting their era, place, style, or artist so that visitors may themselves directly experience Yanagi’s way of seeing.
