Tadanori Yokoo
A pioneering darling of youth culture, Tadanori Yokoo illustrated Harumi Setouchi’s period novel “Genka” which was serialized from 1974-75. Yokoo illustrated the novel, which depicted the fall of the Muromachi military government from the view of a single female narrative, in a freewheeling experimental style. In December of 2015, when the original illustrations were exhibited to the public at the Tadanori Yokoo Museum of Contemporary Art in Hyogo, the work was little known. Shown to the public for the first time in 40 years, the illustrations encapsulated the energy of the 70s, breathing new life into the era and its interest in Eastern thinking of which Yokoo was a leading figure. This exhibition will once again breathe new life into Yokoo’s work with a showcase of 371 original illustrations.
