The Vienna World Exposition of 1873 was the first time for Japan to officially participate in such an event as a nation, and the remaining documents and items reflect the spirit of this time. This exhibition considering what the Expo meant to Japan features materials used in preparation for the event, items actually exhibited, and documentation of changes in Japanese industry following it.
