The Asian Art Award (AAA) supported by Warehouse Terrada is a new contemporary art award that was established in 2017 to provide assistance for emerging artists in Japan with exciting international prospects in Asia and beyond. It is the second time this event has been held.
This year’s award has four finalists, selected by a panel of five curators from a total of 20 nominees, competing for two prizes: the Grand Prize and Special Prize . These finalists have created new work, which is presented here. In addition to prize money, the winner of the Grand Prize will receive the use of a studio space to create new work as well as the opportunity to show their award-winning exhibit in Singapore and at Art Fair Tokyo 2019. As such, the award aspires to form a sustainable framework for building a comprehensive infrastructure of production, evaluation, circulation, and storage that can contribute to the Asian art world in ways that transcend nationality.
