Le Corbusier + Chandigarh “Creation and Context”

Artists

Le Corbusier, Chandigarh
Le Corbusier is well-known as one of the masters of modern architecture. As reflected by his Five Points of Architecture, Le Corbusier’s was a major influence on the worldview that the development of humankind should be based on rational thinking and the advancement of technology.

However, what is less known is that Le Corbusier paid much attention to the context of any project with which he was involved, to the environment and scenery of a location, to its customs and culture. This attention was especially influential in the architecture and urban design of his later work such as his urban plan for the Indian city of Chandigarh.

This exhibition centers around Le Corbusier’s work in the city of Chandigarh, examining Le Corbusier’s creations in an Indian environment far from Europe. The exhibit showcases valuable architectural documents and models and artistic work such as architectural sketches, paintings, lithographs, in addition to photographs and videos by photographer Takashi Homma.
