Artists

Katsuko Ishigaki
Following World War II, there were an art village called Nishimui established in Okinawa. The paintings by Nishimui group members thus became the foundation of postwar art in Okinawa. In this exhibition, Katsuko Ishigaki depicts Okinawa 60 years on from Nishimui. Those in Okinawa coexist under the sun’s bright rays with abundant evergreen trees and plants, surrounded by expansive sea. However, behind the landscape, there is a history of war and occupation.
