Mitsuo Kano is a self-taught copperplate engraver who began showing his work publicly from the mid 1950s onward. In the 1960s he showed his work at Ljubljana International Biennial of Graphic Art and other international events, building his reputation as a leading Japanese artist. This exhibition focuses on around 30 monoprints he produced between 1996 and 2002 for a series titled “The Tale of the Heike,” a medieval epic that tells the story of the struggle between the Taira and Minamoto clans for control of Japan.
