Song Ceramics – Utensils of Sublime Beauty

Idemitsu Museum of Arts
Finished
Ceramics from the Song dynasty are considered to have achieved the peak of beauty in Chinese ceramics history. The wares from the official Guan, Jingdezhen, and Ding kilns, with single-colored glazes of blue or white have fascinated the people of later periods with their simple but clean refined forms and sublime beauty. On the other hand, Cizhou and Jizhou kilns created a variety of hand-painted ceramics with distinct color effects, developing lively and humorous designs. This exhibition will introduce the diverse world of Song ceramics filled with elegant and sublime, as well as approachable beauty.
