Kate Groobey
UK-born Oxford and Royal College of Art educated Kate Groobey is the first female artist to win the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation Art Prize. This exhibition features her “Pure Pleasure” series. Groobey started work on the series after she was inspired by Picasso’s “Man and Woman” seen on a visit to Los Angeles a couple of years ago while traveling overseas with her female partner. She felt that throughout the history of painting depictions of women were from a man’s point of view or self-portraits. She became interested in uncovering the view of a woman’s lover from a women’s point of view. From there she began creating nudes and portraits of her partner. This is the Kate Groobey’s first solo exhibit in Asia.
