Literary Master Kyoka Izumi x Ball-jointed Dolls

Yayoi Museum
Finished

Artists

Kyoka Izumi
Non-mechanical and yet uncannily lifelike, ball-jointed dolls have a certain mystery about them. Ryo Yoshida is a pioneering maker of ball-jointed dolls who, along with artists who have learned from him, creates dolls in the images of heroines from novels by the Meiji through Showa-era author Kyoka Izumi. This exhibition presents around 20 of these dolls and introduces the life and literature of Izumi through handwritten letters and woodblocks and lithographs he owned.
