Nobuhiko Nukata
In the mid-90s, Nobuhiko Nukata formed a style of expression in which he drew layers of minute grids suggestive of a jungle gym. Currently he uses a systematized method of applying oil paint along the grain of linen, upon which a white under painting is uniformly applied. By doing so, this performance becomes an “act” employed to nothing but filling a picture plane by freehand. This show features Nukata’s important series “F.P.M.S.” These are the initials of the ready-made wooden frames: “F (Figure / People)”, “P (Paysage / Landscape)”, “M (Marine / Seascape)” sold as “Japan-Size.” A new booklet with a full color photos and text by Toshiharu Suzuki (Curator, Toyota Municipal Museum of Art) will be published in conjunction with this exhibition.
