Koson Ohara
For its 20th anniversary, Chigasaki City Museum of Art is showcasing “the beauty of prints” throughout the year. The second exhibition in this series features the work of Koson Ohara from the collection of industrialist Yasusaburo Hara. While acclaimed overseas, Ohara’s work is not yet widely known in Japan. This exhibition held with the cooperation of Chugai Industries spotlights Ohara at his best in 260 works of excellent printing and preservation quality––230 of which are displayed publically for the first time. Also featured are ten rare bird and flower Ukiyo-e by artists including Hiroshige Utagawa and Kuniyoshi Utagawa, as well as works Ohara signed Shoson and Hoson after changing his name twice. Exhibits will be alternated between Parts I and II. Additionally, the museum presents a corner introducing Yasusaburo Hara with an architectural model of his former Chigasaki country estate, where the Chigasaki City Museum of Art is now located.
