Memories of an Island - 1970-90 Taiwan Photo Exhibition

Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts
Finished
Throughout its history, the island of Taiwan has undergone many colorful changes. For this exhibition, 11 photographers will represent the development of Taiwan’s photography scene which is remarkable even in Asia. After 38 years of martial law following World War II, 1970-90 was an age of democratization and rapid changes. The political changes during this period also had a great impact on photographic expression within Taiwan. In addition to being a valuable record of Taiwan’s cultural identity, these photographs are also an expression of the undercurrent of new Taiwanese conscious. Most of the photographs in the exhibition have never before been shown in Japan or Taiwan.
