Artists

Kees van Leeuwen
Amsterdam based artist Kees van Leeuwen was born in the Netherlands in 1986. He graduated from the fine arts department of Amsterdam’s Gerrit Rietveld Academie and went on to earn a master’s degree from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague in 2013. From a young age, he had an interest in architecture and spaces, collecting blueprints and visiting a Cold War nuclear shelter. For his first exhibition in Japan, he spent three months in the country collecting old tools and materials to create this installation. The title of the exhibition is inspired by writer Junichiro Tanizaki’s “In Praise of Shadow”.
