Shizu Sato was deeply involved in the running of Joshibi forerunner Women’s Art School. In 1902, Sato would become the first headmaster of the school, saving it from bankruptcy. Sato would run the school under the motto of educating women to have skills and gain independence. This exhibition commemorates the 100th year of Sato’s passing with documents concerning Sato and artwork from artists with ties to Joshibi.
