Exotic × Modern—French Art Deco and Inspiration From Afar

Gunma Museum of Art, Tatebayashi
Finished

Artists

François Pompon, George Barbie et al.
In France in the 1920s and the 1930s, when François Pompon was active, the “Art Deco” style spread among wide-ranging genres of art such as fine art, fashion, jewelry, and furniture design. Having become economically affluent, it was a time during which the people’s interest headed abroad to colonies in Africa and Asia. Through works on loan from domestic and foreign collections, this exhibition introduces diverse forms of Art Deco from the aspect of points of contact with foreign cultures.
