Artists

Chihiro Iwasaki
Chihiro Iwasaki was both a painter and a picture book illustrator. This retrospective commemorating the 100th anniversary of her birth reappraises her paintings while considering the cultural context of her art and her skills as a painter. It presents more than 200 works including some new materials such as posters and artwork for story time shows and magic lanterns, as well as her oil paintings. Spotlighting Iwasaki’s work in detail, it casts her in a new light beyond the sweet gentleness for which her illustrations are known.
