Nakajima Yoshio
When Yukio Nakajima was 10, he decided to become a painter when he saw works of Van Gogh. In mid-1950’s Tokyo, he threw himself into the whirlpool of avant-garde art and put on numerous events. After leaving Japan at the age of 23, he traveled and worked around Europe, participated in several art movements, and finally came to live in Sweden. During this time, Nakajima staged large-scale exhibitions at museums and galleries throughout Europe, continually introducing new works. In recent years, after more than 50 years of work in Sweden, he is now focusing his energies on Japan again. In this exhibition there are about 30 assemblages (three-dimensional works composed of a variety of materials) on display for the first time. Together with these, there will be various performance events, making for an unforgettable experience of the charm of Nakajima Yoshio.
