Yoshito Koyama “Imya”

The Blank Gallery
Finished

Artists

Yoshito Koyama
The scenes that Yoshito Koyama paints echo those of old photo snaps, appearing to show something the viewer has seen somewhere before. Refusing the identify the time, place and who they are, the subjects in these works return the viewer’s gaze. Koyama encourages viewers to embrace their anxious curiosity in encountering the unknown and look for explanations. This is echoed in the unfamiliar word “imya,” the exhibition title.
In his second solo show at this gallery, Koyama presents around 30 new works that center on human subjects.
