Kazan Yokoyama
Kazan Yokoyama (1781/4-1837) was a painter and instructor active in Kyoto during the latter days of the Edo period. Kazan acquired many different styles of painting, having studied under Shohaku Soga and as an admirer of Matsumura Goshun. Kazan himself influenced many of his contemporaries and his work has been recognized by overseas collectors such as Fenorosa, but he is today best known as an instructor. This exhibition showcases his masterpiece Gion Saireizu and works from the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the British Museum, along with around 100 pieces by Shohaku Soga and Yokoyama’s disciples.
