Africa, and Ethiopia in particular, has produced some of the best fossil records in the world when it comes to human evolution and the dawn of civilization. In this exhibition, based on the findings of collaborative research carried out by those in Japan and Ethiopia since the 1980s, you can learn about the development of technology and the trajectory of human evolution from the period of around 2.5 million years ago - when human lineage began - to the emergence of Homo sapiens and stone tools. Highlights include 52 original stoneware exhibits on loan from Ethiopia that demonstrate the innovation and development of technology, such as some of the oldest stoneware in the world - estimated as being around 2.6 million years old - and the oldest handaxe, considered to have been produced 1.75 million years ago.
