Aki Narita + Yoko Naito “At the Bottom of a Well”

Park Hotel Tokyo

Artists

Aki Narita, Yoko Naito
From ancient times, wells have been sanctified as gifts from God and entrances to the underworld, as well as a forbidden place that must not be infringed upon. Japan has many ghost stories related to wells, and it is said that there have been cases where carps were released as guardian angels.

This summer, the 30-meter open air atrium at Park Hotel Tokyo will turn into a well. “At the Bottom of a Well” by Aki Narita and Yoko Naito is held as the 25th exhibition of “ART colours,” which celebrates the four seasons of Japan with art. The two artists of this exhibition have gained popularity through Park Hotel Tokyo’s “Artist in Hotel” project, for which they each created a hotel room named after the fish “Geisha Goldfish” and “Carp.”

Aki Narita’s style suggests a fierce passion dwelling within deeply settled memories; Using pragmatic and free techniques, Yoko Naito draws on internal impulses in search of truth. The works of these two contrasting female artists will turn the hotel’s atrium on the 25th floor into a well in the sky. At night, the projection mapping video will flow through the walls, and the art will swim freely in the simulated well space.
